It’s not TV, it’s TBS

Not having cable but still seeing a few choice shows (through dvd or downloading) has been great on many levels; less time wasted to crap television, no commercials, less money spent on something that wastes my time. But if there’s been one telivised ritual that I’ve definitely missed, it’s watching (or more likely having on in the background) whatever random movie happens to be on TBS, or TNT, or A&E, or something else.

To replicate that, I’ve been downloading a lot of movies, usually marquee titles, most that I’ve seen already, but none that I would have ever made a point of purchasing or watching over and over. The best way I’ve used to find them (since they’re not usually movies I’d ever remember to think about), is to simply search by year.

For instance, 1998:
He Got Game
The X-Files
Godzilla
Ronin
Deep Impact
The Truman Show

And 2003:
The Yards
Perfect Storm
Vertical Limit
Daredevil
Terminator 3
The Core

Yes, I know those are all generally shit cliché action movies and the like (I’m just as big a fan of art house flicks as you are, so back off), but those are exactly the kind of movies that TBS airs on a random afternoon, and exactly the kind you can walk away from to do something else, but will be on in the background and occupy that nagging part of your brain that needs to distract you with it’s boredom while you’re trying to do something more important. So there.
