The sixth and final submission to the 50 States Project, this time for “The American Dream.”
The people of Michigan have long held a strong desire for travel, exploration, and just “getting away.” Just about every family I knew growing up went “up north” a few times every year, went on long family trips around the country, or had a modest lake house somewhere on America’s third coast.
Multiple generations of middle class security helped give many people the chance to go on long vacations. For the more adventurous, RV’s were the next logical step in the wanderlust pursuit. Combine the desire for expanded boundaries with the mechanically proficient populace of the state, and you start to see why many of the campers-on-wheels across the country are sporting Michigan license plates.
